Ever since her dramatic launch at the 1996 International Contemporary Furniture Fair, multi-talented interdisciplinary designer Denyse Schmidt has been considered one of the furnishing world's rising stars. During her relatively brief span of her business, she has turned contemporary quilting on its ear, establishing herself as the go-to-gal for unique modernist bedcovers, as much a hero to the professional design community as those in home-based sewing circles retailed nationwide. Now in partnership with Sarita Handa, she offers an edited selection of quilts and accessories inspired by her signature deisgns, hand sewn in India. The designer's style conveys a confidence that winks at tradition with sly humor. Bold color fields in sophisticated combinations, playful geometries and syncopated rhythms hint at her expertise in graphics and dance.
SARITA HANDA is the founder and owner of Sarita Handa Exports, one of the premier textile manufacturers in India. Renowned for its quality, complexity and breadth of tailoring techniques, Sarita's company is more comparable to the fine old Italian firms that flourished during the 1960's and 70's than to other Asian producers. |
